The Latest Brazilian Take On Alternative Rock, An Eclectic Group Called Firefriend, Releases Their Latest Album In The United States, "Witch Tales"
New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Powderfinger Promotions) The latest Brazilian take on alternative rock, an eclectic group called FireFriend , releases their latest album in the United States, " Witch Tales ." Yury Hermuche (guitar, vocals) met Julia Grassetti (bass, cello, piano, vocals) in early 2006 in São Paulo, Brazil.
A few months later they released their debut album, which attracted attention from underground musicians, particularly local music icon, Pablo Oruê (drums), who instantly felt a musical kinship with FireFriend's heavy rock sound. Since meeting Pablo Oruê, FireFriend became deeply immersed in their music, releasing new records nearly every year, and performing numerous gigs at clubs and festivals. In 2010 the band became a quintet and now includes Caca Amaral (guitar, bass, drums) and Judaz Mallet (guitar, bass).

FireFriend features a frenzied mix of heavy incantations and guitar riffs; their sound: American alternative rock that's been devoured by Brazilian drums and ghosts. Lying somewhere between Sonic Youth, Queens of the Stone Age, and William S. Burroughs, FireFriend's new album, "Witch Tales," evokes images of cosmic despondency and the desire to connect with others. Lyrically the songs are about love and death, joy and politics. When asked about FireFriend and the music Yury explains, "We believe in spells, music, love… we chose to devote our lives to music because its an universal language - but in our planet there are more distorted guitars and jazz."

"Witch Tales" was recorded at Nimbus and Rifinaria and was produced by the band's husband and wife duo, Yury Hermuche and Julia Grassetti.
