Nashville, TN. (Top40 Charts/ S&S Mack Records) - Jason Matthews, the hit songwriter that co-wrote Billy Currington's Number One smash, "Must Be Doin' Somethin' Right," has released his debut album, Hicotine. Matthews wrote or co-wrote all thirteen songs on the album.

The first single, "That's What Mamas Do," is a powerful tribute to mothers everywhere and is currently shooting up the Music Row CountryBreakout chart. Matthews won Music Row's Breakthrough Writer of the Year in 2006.

Hicotine proves Matthews to be more than just another Nashville songwriter, as his soulful delivery maneuvers easily between country-rocker anthems like the title track "Hicotine" to the thoughtful ballad "That's What Mamas Do."

"If Faulkner needed a soundtrack, he'd ask Jason Matthews to write it," says Max Hutchinson of Valhalla Music Group.

Matthews has a history of writing hit singles for other artists. In addition to co-writing "Must Be Doin' Something Right," Matthews has seen several of his songs turn into hits, including Julie Roberts' "Break Down Here," Kevin Denney's "That's Just Jesse," Tammy Cochran's "Life Happened," Dusty Drake's "One Last Time" and James Otto's "The Ball."

"It's like that great big radio channel in the sky that you keep trying to tune into and every once in awhile you catch a little bit, and then it's back to static," Matthews says of the inspiration behind his songwriting technique. "You take what you heard and you write it, you try to put all the other stuff around the inspiration."

Born in Harrells Store, North Carolina, Patrick Jason Matthews got hooked on the craft of songwriting at the age of fifteen. After earning a degree in English from East Carolina University, Matthews continued writing, eventually hitting the road with musical comedy team Pinkard and Bowden as a roadie and songwriter. A year later, Matthews relocated to Nashville, where he is currently signed to Universal Music Publishing Group.

Hicotine was produced by Jason Matthews and Bart Busch and released nationally on May 6.
