About Jorge Villamizar:
Jorge Villamizar was born in Colombia . At 10, his parents moved to Quito, Ecuador. At 18, he went back to Colombia and joined the Naval Academy for a year. From there, he moved to London for two years, where he studied Political Science; and then to Miami, where he has lived since 1992.

Jorge came from a musical family through his mother's side. At age seven, she gave him his first walkman with one tape in it: The Beatles Love Songs. She taught him to play guitar at age 12. Later on, she made him aware of the folkloric music of South America. At 14, Jorge joined his high school band in Quito, and ended up opening for the legendary Argentinean rock band Soda Stereo. While in the Navy, songwriting became his way to escape the strict military life and his first full songs came along. When living in London, he spent his summer vacations playing in the streets, where he was spotted by Robin Jones, the legendary London percussionist, and joined his band King Salsa. Jorge moved to Miami in 1992 and entered the University of Miami, where he got his Business Degree and, most importantly, formed the band Bacilos.

BACILOS
With Bacilos, Jorge played for years the local club scene until they got signed by Warner Music Latina, who released their self-titled first album, which contained "Tabaco y Chanel", a song that immediately became a hit in South America and got them the attention of the critics and peers. Their self produced album got them two Latin Grammy award nominations. "Caraluna" followed and mainstream success arrived: the songs "Caraluna" and "Mi Primer Millon" became regional hits that stayed in the airways for years, getting them shows all over the continent. That album got them an American Grammy and two Latin Grammy awards, plus several other European and Latin American honors.

After the release of their third album "Sinverguenza", Bacilos disintegrated, playing their last concert in Vina del Mar Festival 2007. This album got them their fourth and last Grammy. By then, Jorge had established himself as an important songwriter. Artists like Julieta Venegas, Paulina Rubio and Marc Anthony had recorded his songs.

JORGE VILLAMIZAR, THE ALBUM
To prepare for his next move, Jorge took some time off in Paris, Bogota, Cartagena and Miami. In those months, Jorge came up with the songs for his long awaited album, named Jorge Villamizar, that is due to be released in May 20th 2008.

Jorge joined British producer Richard Blair and slowly recorded his first solo album at home in Miami and at Audiovision in Bogota, where they also invited other talents to join the recording: the bassist Chucho Merchan (Pete Townsend, David Gilmour, Pretenders, Eurythmics); Teto Ocampo, who brought the "Colombian psicodelia" with his guitar; Roberto Cuao provided the grooves; and Goyo, Erika and Janio in the choruses.
