Amy Macdonald is poised to break out as one of the summer's new stars with her US album debut 'This is the Life' (August 19, Decca). Macdonald's intricate songwriting and musical delivery shines by digging deep, sounding gritty and taking cues from rock influences such as The Killers,
Travis and The Libertines.
The Boston Globe just described Amy as "a 20-year-old lass with a guitar, a strong will, thick eyeliner, and a voice that snaps you to attention. MacDonald is on the rootsier side of pop... Her songwriting themes are universal, but her perspective is decidedly youthful... We give her a year before she's headlining the Orpheum."
A native Scot and self-taught musician, Macdonald has already achieved double platinum success in the UK for her keen ability to create simple, yet compelling stories and spent the past 18 months touring Europe, opening for Paul Weller, meeting her one-time hero Pete Doherty and headlining her favorite music venue Glasgow Barrowlands.
'This Is The Life' features Macdonald opining on everything from indulgent and self-destructive pop stars on the dark and venomous track "Poison Prince" to their so-called celebrity counterparts on the lamenting ballad "Footballer's Wife." Emerging from an album laden with hits, "Run" creates a powerful sonic experience that builds from a whisper to a masterful crescendo of vocals, solidifying Macdonald's standing as a singer experienced far beyond her 20 years of age.
UK's The Guardian declared that Macdonald has "a classic autumnal voice, a folkish take on things (like KT Tunstall) and choruses destined for drive-time radio," adding that "her vocals fire singing bullets against the rear wall." The Independent (UK) called her album 'This is The Life' "a youthfully exuberant collection of songs."
Prior to embarking on her biggest UK headline tour starting in Edinburgh on May 14th, Amy will perform three special showcases in the US: Monday, April 28th in Boston at Great Scott; Tuesday, April 29th in New York City at Mercury Lounge; and Wednesday, April 30th also in New York City at The Living Room.
