LONDON, UK (V Festival PR) - It's official!! After a national campaign, the star that is Tony Christie, is confirmed to perform a spectacular show at this year's V Festival, sponsored by Virgin Mobile.

Tony will play at Weston Park, Staffordshire and Hylands Park, Chelmsford on the weekend of 20th-21st August as part of the 80 strong line up. The musical legend is set to give V festival goers a performance to remember.

Tony Christie, is just as excited as we are and commented:
"V will be my first ever UK festival and I am really looking forward to playing to a festival crowd."

Tony Christie is one of the world's major recording stars. He's worked with producer Jack White, had successful sell out tours, made TV appearances and even had a song specially written for him by Jarvis Cocker.

Over the last couple of months, Tony Christie's fan base has rapidly expanded to a younger audience and largely thanks to Mr Peter Kay – he's now got cult status and tops the UK official top 40 and Download charts with his charity single 'Is This the Way to Amarillo?'.

A brief history of 10 years of V...
The very first V festival was held in 1996 and was the only event of its kind to be staged at two sites over the same weekend where the artists swap venues overnight. Previous headliners have included The Strokes, Muse, Dido and Pixies (last year), Coldplay and Red Hot Chilli Peppers (2003), Manic Street Preachers and Suede (1999), Prodigy and Blur (1997) and featured acts such as Travis, The Verve, James Brown, Iggy Pop, Macy Gray, Moby, Faithless and Kylie... The festival boasts the cream of the music crop every year and organisers are pulling out all the stops to celebrate a decade of V!

Text the fest, free kebabs and angels...
Once again Virgin Mobile joins the festival as headline sponsor, making it one of the longest standing music sponsorships in the business. They are guaranteed to bring us all the things that festival goers have got used to, Text the Fest, free kebabs and beer for their customers and angels onsite to do everything from putting up your tent to making sure you find it again at the end of the night.
Virgin Mobile - the V in the V Festival!

Tune in...
V Festival is now sold out, but those without tickets can tune into Virgin Radio will broadcast the festival live across the August weekend with stage sets and unique acoustic sessions from the Virgin Radio VIP Tent and interviews with all the stars. Until then keep tuned in on 1215AM nation-wide or 105.8FM in London to hear all of the latest line up news as well as the chance to win tickets.

And finally...
V Festival is a live music industry favourite, with Kings of Leon claiming V to be their fave fest of 2004! On the weekend of 20th and 21st August 2005 V celebrates a decade of great live music - over 80 bands will perform on 4 main stages, over the 2 great sites.
