African Soulbird And Women's Activist, Onejiru, Unleashes Empowering Album
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) SPIEGEL - 'Onejiru sings on a disco beat straight out of a late 70's Boney M single'
Singer-songwriter, Onejiru, has released her new album, bringing not just her incredible voice and skill as a musician to a wider audience but also her activism which sees her travelling the world championing women's rights and the under-privileged world-wide. The initiator of "eeden", a co-creation space, a space of thought and work for visionary women, her second solo album titled "Higher than High ", continues to build on her reputation as one of Europe's top performers of Afro-beat, funk and soul. The album's message is simple - don't be afraid of pop music, let down your inhibitions and let the music transport you higher than high!

Onejiru is a musician and activist born in Nairobi, whose latest album looks to propel her to higher than high status worldwide! The singer-songwriter grew up in Wanne-Eickel and has been living in Hamburg for many years. Not only has she toured in Europe, USA, Russia and East Africa and sang on various albums but she has also been part of the artist collective Turtle Bay Country Club of Hamburg-based music producer and manager Matthias Arfmann for many years.

In addition to her career as a musician, she is socially involved in the advisory board of Viva con Agua Foundation and the Afro-German artist collective "Sisters" founded by her. Sisters is the concentrated force of women who have come together to engage politically and socially on issues such as gender, racism, education and environmental policies. She is also Spokesperson of Music Hamburg Women, a network for women in the music industry.

Onejiru is a singer and producer in the team of " Ballet Jeunesse", recomposed classical music to make it more accessible for a younger audience. Ballet Jeunesse opened the Reeperbahn Festival 2016 together with the Symphoniker Hamburg and was nominated in the same year for a HANS Music Award for both "Album of the Year" and "Outstanding Production". In October 2018 ARTE aired the documentary "Ballet Jeunesse - Von Ballett, Beats und Regelbrechern" and a concert with the NDR Radiophilharmonie. The album "Ballet Jeunesse" has appeared on the Decca label in 13 countries.

Accompanied by the legendary James Brown drummer Tony Cook, Nneka on the DJ console, Ngone Thiam on the keyboard, the guitar goddess Rhina Love and the dancing queen Connie Kau, Onejiru brings the dance floor to the boil. With a dazzling video to the title track ready-packed for radio and Stop Foolin due to follow, Higher than High is a classic in the making.
