Petlib. Experimental Heavy Post-Rock Trio Reveal New Single 'Wounds' Out Now
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Following a run of headline UK tour dates in June, London experimental heavy post rock trio Petlib. (formerly known as Pet Library) have released a new single, 'Wounds'—the latest track to be taken from their new album Maker, set for release on 9th August 2019 via Beth Shalom Records.

Influenced by the likes of Deafheaven, Employed To Serve and Loathe, forthcoming album Maker is an ambitious concept record exploring the power possessed by a higher being, and the moral choices that have to be made when assessing how our actions affect those we are in control of.

Commenting on the track, the band said: "'Wounds' is set towards the end of the Maker's story at the time during which the Maker reaches his most defiant and evil mindset. Engulfed by guilt and anger the Maker sets out on a path of destruction against their creation. Wounds was written towards the end of the album writing sessions during a period of real eagerness to push our own boundaries of what we were capable of creating towards the heavier end of our sound spectrum."

"The part of the story that Wounds covers required something gritty and abrasive, and having the synth interlude within the track allowed us to show off the juxtaposition within the mind of the Maker themselves. Adding a calm between two storms highlights the mental plight that the Maker has to struggle with within the story."

Produced, engineered, mixed and mastered by Hamish Dickinson at Phoenix Sound Studio, the album sees the band bring their deep multi-disciplinary audio/visual insight to their creative process. Citing influence from Radiohead, Explosions In The Sky and Deafheaven, Petlib. harness an intensity that tells a poignant story through the soundscapes and accompanying visual elements developed in this bold new reimagining of the band.
Maker is released 8th August via Beth Shalom Records.

Maker is a concept album about a scientist who creates a universe within their own mind and becomes a higher-being/God for this universe, with the ability to detach themselves from reality in order to focus solely on the utopia that they've created.

Across the course of the story, the Maker's real life begins to descend into turmoil after being neglected. Whilst they become obsessed with the power of being a God, and they begin to deteriorate in the real world both physically and mentally, their moral and ethical compass is swayed within their own subconscious universe.

Each track cuts between concurrent thought processes in the real world and within the Maker's utopia, and as the record progresses it becomes ever darker, and more chaotic, until the final titular track 'Maker' sees them decide that they are to destroy the universe whilst they are in it, leaving their subconscious non-existent. Their real-life body is to remain lifeless - nobody in the real world is affected by the Maker's realisation that, deep down, they are prepared to sacrifice all the things that they love just for the illusion of power.

Maker examines an array of ethical issues that are ever present in modern society, and whilst the illusion of a Maker creating a subconscious universe brings a sense of fantasy to the subject, it also boldly asks the question: what would you truly do if you had all the power in the world? Would you use it for good, or evil?
