Former US Navy Seal Pete Scobell Recruited To Perform And Speak At The Points Of Light Conference On Volunteering And Service And 25th Anniversary Tribute
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Former U.S. Navy SEAL and country music artist Pete Scobell will perform and speak at the annual Points of Light Conference on Volunteering and Service and 25th Anniversary Tribute this week in Houston, TX. Festivities begin today, and Scobell will perform tonight at the Welcome to Texas Celebration, Tuesday's 25th Anniversary Tribute and Wednesday morning's Military Forum.

Pete Scobell already has a long narrative with many chapters - a celebrated Navy SEAL, competitive skier and athlete, mountain climber, an inspiration and outspoken advocate. The release of a country album could be taken as just another chapter in the life of a habitual success addict.

The truth is a guitar has been Scobell's only constant companion as he's traveled the world on more adventures than most people have in a full lifetime. His debut release of "Walkin a Wire" represents the culmination of a lifelong dream.

"I didn't just wake up one morning and decide I want to be a musician," Scobell said. "It's something I've done my whole life. My mom was a music teacher. She died when I was 10 months old and she left all her instruments. That's how I learned how to play. I was always trying to feel closer to her."

"I'm really just focused on making good music that I enjoy playing and that's meaningful to me," Scobell said. "Everybody has life lessons, you just learn them in different places. Some of mine happen to be from my experiences in the military. That story might get people to listen to it one time, but this is a passion of mine and I've put so much time and effort into creating this album, this music and this sound. I want the music to really speak for itself."

"I am extremely honored to be part of such a important event and work with this great organization. This conference on Volunteering and Service brings thousands of people together to take action and make positive changes in the world."

From the White House twenty-five years ago, President Bush gave voice and direction to a movement that's steadily grown ever since, saving and changing countless lives for the better in this country and around the world.

Today, Points of Light is the world's largest organization dedicated to volunteer service - mobilizing millions of people each year to take action and change the world.

The Points of Light Conference on Volunteering and Service, providing the singular opportunity for thousands to come together to shape the future of volunteerism, will be held in Houston, Texas at the George R. Brown Convention Center October 19-21. Throughout the week, the Conference will offer sessions featuring the most recognized names in leadership, entertainment and philanthropy leadership, all joining attendees to celebrate volunteering and service.

Points of Light marks its 25th anniversary Tuesday night at the Cullen Theater, Wortham Center in Houston with a celebration honoring its founder, President George H. W. Bush. The event will pay tribute to everyday heroes and leaders who have shaped the trajectory of the organization and the service movement over the last 25 years. Special guests and honorees include President and Mrs. George H. W. Bush, Vice President Dan Quayle, Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Norris. Ray Chambers, United Nations Special Envoy for Financing the Health Millennium Development Goals and For Malaria (founding chairman of the Points of Light Foundation) and Michelle Nunn, President and CEO of CARE USA (founder of HandsOn Network and former CEO of Points of Light) will be honored for their leadership of Points of Light and Senator Harris Wofford will receive the George W. Romney Award for Public Service. Entertainment for the evening includes Pete Scobell, Dionne Warwick, Yolanda Adams, Kristian Bush, The Midtown Men, and Kenna.

The Points of Light Conference includes more than 80 workshops with nonprofit, corporate and civic leaders; the opportunity to participate in "Read Across the Globe," a reading event that aims to break a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title; luncheons on corporate and employee volunteerism; four issue-focused forums on the topics of education, military, faith and national service.

Points of Light is the largest organization in the world dedicated to volunteer service with volunteers at work in more than 29 countries delivering more than 30 million hours of service a year.
